“There is no charm equal to tenderness of heart.”

Tucked away in the Taunus hills of central Germany, Idstein is a small town that feels as though it has been lifted straight from a storybook. With its colourful half-timbered houses, narrow streets and pretty market square, it is the kind of place that rewards simply wandering and seeing where the next street leads.
The town’s history can be seen everywhere, but it is the beautiful old buildings that make Idstein so photogenic. Crooked timber frames, colourful façades and little details around every corner give the town a wonderfully charming character.
We spent our time wandering through the old town, taking in the architecture and enjoying the relaxed atmosphere. It felt much quieter than some of Germany’s better-known destinations, which made it all the more enjoyable.
Idstein is a small place, but sometimes those are the places that leave the biggest impression. Pretty, peaceful and full of character, it was another little German gem that was a pleasure to discover.
