Tucked between Belgium, France and Germany, Luxembourg is one of Europe’s smallest countries, and its capital is often overlooked in favour of its better-known neighbours. Yet Luxembourg City is a beautiful little surprise, with grand buildings, winding streets, pretty squares and a dramatic setting above deep green valleys. It has a lovely pace to it, somewhere you can wander without feeling that you need to rush from one sight to the next.
We spent our time simply exploring the city, taking in the architecture, wandering through the old streets and stopping whenever somewhere caught our eye. One of the nicest parts was sitting in a square with some good food, watching the world go by and enjoying the relaxed atmosphere.
Towards the end of our visit, we took the panoramic lift, a small but memorable experience that gave us a wonderful view down into the Pétrusse Valley and across the city.
Luxembourg City might not always make the top of everyone’s European list, but perhaps that is what makes it so enjoyable. It feels like a little discovery, quietly waiting to be explored.
